Skating Rinks and Sledding Hill
The pools of water on the ice rinks reminds us that we are exactly 100 days away from the Anoka Aquatic Center's opening day. But that also means the ice rinks are not fairing well. Due to the ice melting and warmer forecast, the warming houses and ice rinks will be closed for the season.
Watch for weather related updates on the City of Anoka Facebook page .
Snow Clearing
Rinks will be cleared of snow as soon as possible, but not until the snow has stopped falling. Clearing streets and sidewalks are the number one priority after a snowfall. There are shovels at the rinks if skaters want to clear the snow off the ice. It is not the responsibility of the rink attendant to clear the rinks ; they are responsible for keeping the warming house entrance and exit clear of snow.
Flooding Procedures
All skating rinks are cleaned and surfaced as staff, time, and weather permits. Rinks cannot be surfaced during the following conditions:
- Extreme cold (negative 10 degrees and lower) - flooding at extremely cold temperatures causes ice to crack and boil
- Extreme warm (25 degrees and higher) - flooding in warm weather results in puddling and uneven surfaces
- High winds and blowing snow - flooding under these conditions causes poor ice, air pockets, and ripples
- Snowfall

Skates and Snowshoes
The City of Anoka is proud to offer skates and snowshoes for people to loan while they visit the rinks. These loaners are at specific locations. Please talk with the Ice Rink Attendant when wanting to use a pair. You must fill out a sheet with your name, number, and signature. By signing you acknowledge that there is an assumption of risk and the City of Anoka is not liable for any injury that could occur during usage. Parents must accompany any youth using these items.

Closures
Due to low rink attendant staffing, warming houses may not be open on certain days.
Rinks/warming houses will be closed or may close early if air temperatures are negative 10 degrees or colder, or if the wind chill is negative 30 degrees or colder. Rinks may also close in the event of a wind chill advisory. The Recreation Supervisor will determine all rink closures.
If the temperatures fall throughout the course of the day or evening it may be necessary to close facilities earlier than posted.
Skater safety is our main priority. Frost bite can occur in as little as 15 minutes when wind chill is negative 20 or below. Please refer to the Wind Chill Chart (PDF).
Rinks/warming houses may close if unseasonably warm temperatures affect ice conditions. Rink attendants have the authority to enforce "boots only" if the ice is soft or may close an area all together if dirt/grass pose a safety hazard. Large amounts of standing water on the ice may warrant closing rinks.
