Spring Recycling Drop-off Event

Are you tackling your spring cleaning in your home and garage?  If so, now is the time to set aside those recycable materials that are accepted at our spring recycling event.

Join us on Saturday, April 27th from 8 a.m. - noon at 501 Pierce Street.  Acceptable items include appliances, electronics, batteries, bikes, corrugated cardboard, gently-used clothing & shoes, fluorescent bulbs/lamps, mattresses/box springs, scrap metal, tires, and more!

The Anoka Lions will greet and direct you to the proper material collection location and our volunteers are there to help answer any questions.  Some fees apply.  Visit the event link for more information and to view the flyer and site map.  Thank you for recycling!

Organics Recycling Program
Organics accepted

Organics Recycling Program is "Growing"

Would you like to compost your food waste instead of tossing it in the garbage?  The amount of food that gets thrown away can save volumes in your garbage container.

Consider joining our FREE organics recycling drop-off program.  Learn more and sign up online. A starter kit with instructions and some compostable bags will be provided to you.

The site is located at 649 East Garfield St. (entrance right off 7th Ave. just south of the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center) - it's easy to find and easy to access.  We have close to 200 participating residents.  Let's add your name to the list so you can start composting your food scraps for free!

Little Free Library
We Read and Reuse Books

Little Free Library

We Read and Reuse Books (WRRB)

We are happy to have built a Little Free Library for the public to use.  It is stationed in back of Anoka City Hall, along the Rum River Trail.

Please feel free to take a book home to read, relax with a book along the banks of the Rum River, and stop back with more books to share.  We ask that only general fiction and non-fiction books be shared.  While many people love cookbooks and magazines, we ask that those items and other materials (brochures, flyers, signs, etc.) not be placed within the library.

Thank you for sharing and have a great read!

Shoe drive program

Gently-Used Shoe Drive

Don't forget!  Peterson Shoes in downtown Anoka continues to accept gently-used shoes for donations to help support the Soles4Souls program.

Bring any gently-used shoes (all types) to Peterson Shoes during regular business hours. Anoka's Waste Reduction & Recycling Board is proud of this partnership.  We appreciate the work of those at Peterson Shoes who collect, prepare, and package the shoes for shipping.  The collective weight of all the shoes is applied towards the city's recycling tonnage goal!  It's a win-win for all!

Waterfowl for Warriors Program
Waterfowl for Warriors

Waterfowl for Warriors - Aluminum Can Collection

You can easily help support Anoka's Waterfowl for Warriors program by donating your aluminum cans to one of the two collection trailers in the city.

Find the trailers at Better Vaulues Liquor Store - 847 East River Road and just north of Castle Field (to the west of the Anoka Ice Arena) off of 600 Castle Field Blvd.

The cans are recycled and the funds earned help support the lunches served at several Waterfowl for Warriors hunts each fall.  The Waterfowl for Warriors hunts allow veterans and active service members to hunt and participate in this free program.  Another win-win for all!
