2021 Construction Updates

Updates for the Week of Sept 12, 2021

 

 U.S. Highway 10/169 Improvement Project 

 

Beginning in the spring of 2022, the City of Anoka will be reconstructing U.S. Highway 10/169 from the west city limit line with Ramsey to 1,100 feet west of the Trunk Highway 47/169 Ferry Street interchange. The project will transform this signalized corridor into a freeway providing a roundabout  interchange at Thurston Avenue, an underpass at Fairoak Avenue, and a reconstructed interchange at Main Street. There will be frontage road networks on both the north and south sides of the highway.

The bid opening for the project was on Thursday, August 26th at Anoka City Hall. The City received five bids for the project and Shafer Contracting is the apparent low bidder. 



2021 Swede Town Street Renewal Project (SRP)

The contractor for this project is Kuechle Underground, Inc. from Kimball, Minnesota. The full-time project inspector for the project is Dave St. Dennis. The contractor is currently working on the boulevard restoration, which will include landscaping and tree plantings. Once the sod and boulevard trees are installed, doorhangers will be placed on front doors with watering/care information. 

 

Green Haven Parkway Phase II Project

The project will include constructing a public parkway between Verndale Avenue and Fairoak Avenue with bike and pedestrian accommodations. Garfield Street will intersect the parkway at the existing location as part of the city project.

The contractor for this project is S.R. Weidema from Maple Grove, Minnesota. The full-time project inspector for the project is Al Spilles.  The contractor is currently working on the trail way and small utility relocations.

 

Mississippi Community Park Riverbank Stabilization Project

This project addresses the eroding riverbank along the Mississippi River over the past decades. The project will consist of the removal of mature trees and vegetation. The riverbank will be stabilized by re-grading the bank to a stable slope and will be covered with filter cloth and rip-rap at the toe of the slope. The upper portion of the slope will be graded and covered with erosion fabric. After the work is completed, the riverbank will be restored with a variety of native grasses and erosion control blanket. Live willow cuttings will be planted within or immediately above the rip-rap to provide additional slope stabilization and additional erosion control.  The contractor has begun to grade the riverbank and is installing the rip-rap along the toe of the slope up to the observed high water elevation. Final completion is schedule for the end of October.

 

Anoka County TH 47 & CSAH 116 Intersection Improvements 

This project will increase intersection capacity by providing additional travel and turn lanes. The contractor is on-site and the project will be completed by November. MnDOT Highway 47/169 (Ferry St) Resurfacing Project 

This construction season Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is resurfacing Highway 47 from the south end of the Mississippi River to Clay Street and from Pleasant Street to just south of Industry Avenue/Bunker Lake Boulevard. The contractor, Valley Paving is on-site and the  completion date of October 15th. TH-47 (St. Francis Blvd) north of Pleasant Avenue will be closed beginning Friday, September 17th at 10 PM Thru Monday, September 20th at 5 AM. Local traffic will remain open during this time.

 

MnDOT Highway 10 Corridor Improvements Early Work Contract

 The contractor has completed the pavement widening work at the intersection of TH-47 (St. Francis Blvd) and McKinley Avenue. The installation of the temporary signal and the restriping of TH-47 for the proposed lane configuration improvements will occur in 2022. 

The work being done at the interchange of Highway 10 and 7th Avenue includes the realignment of the Highway 10 westbound exit ramp to align with Pierce Street with a temporary signal. In 2022, the existing signal at the ramp will be removed and the westbound entrance ramp to Highway 10 will be closed. The eastbound exit ramp from Highway 10 will be widen to accommodate a “button hook ramp” from southbound 7th Avenue to eastbound Highway 10, opening in 2022. 

 The contractor, New Look Contracting is on-site working and the completion date is late October.
